FTL Faster Than Light Codexery

Aeon Interceptor

A needle of light and shield, gone before you can aim.

The Aeon Interceptor is a small, razor-fast strike craft fielded by the Aeon faction in FTL: Faster Than Light. Designed as a hit-and-run predator, it pairs a sleek, angular hull with the faction's signature heavy shield emitters, allowing it to dart into a fight, unleash a burst of energy, and peel away before the enemy can lock on. Among the Aeon's arsenal it serves as the vanguard—cheap, expendable, and terrifyingly quick.

In the broader narrative of the game, Aeon vessels like the Interceptor are encountered as hostile contacts scattered across the galaxy map, representing one of the many factions caught in the crossfire of the Rebel uprising and the mysterious Aeon's own inscrutable agenda. They are not allies, not neutral; they are a force of nature in the void, and their Interceptors are the first teeth you feel when their larger ships close the distance.

Lore & Background

The Aeon are a faction shrouded in a quiet, almost devotional mystery. Where the Lanius scream and the Mantis swarm, the Aeon simply *are*—a civilization whose ships bristle with shield emitters as if the void itself were a threat they must be perpetually warded against. Their Interceptor is the smallest expression of that philosophy: a hull no larger than a shuttle, yet wrapped in layered deflector fields that make it disproportionately hard to kill for its size.

Pilot accounts (what little there is of them, since the Aeon rarely leave survivors to speak) describe the Interceptor as a blur of angular geometry and hard-light edges, its weapon ports glowing a cold, steady blue. It does not dogfight. It does not taunt. It vectors in, fires a concentrated lance of energy, and is already three jumps away. The Aeon do not negotiate, do not broadcast, do not explain. Their Interceptors simply appear on your radar, and by the time you have spun your turret, the space where it was is empty and your shields are flickering.

In the context of the galaxy's civil war, the Aeon occupy a strange middle ground. They are not Rebel, not Imperial, not Lanius. They seem to operate on a timeline or a purpose that the other factions simply cannot parse, and their Interceptors are the most visible, most aggressive proof that they are present and they are watching.

In Their Own Story

The radar ping came from the upper-left, a single green dot sliding toward your position with the unhurried patience of something that knows you cannot outrun it. You spun the ship, lined up the laser, and fired. The bolt struck the Interceptor's shield and *bloomed*—a soft, expanding ring of blue light that swallowed your shot whole. The little angular craft didn't even wobble. It adjusted its vector by a few degrees, and a thin line of white fire lanced out from its prow. Your shields dropped to sixty percent. Then the dot was gone, already fading on the edge of the radar, and the silence of the void pressed in again, heavy and indifferent. You stared at the empty space where it had been and thought, very quietly, *what on earth do they want?* The Aeon, as always, did not answer.

Reader's Guide

The Aeon faction is visually distinct in FTL: their ships feature dark, angular hulls with prominent crystalline or geometric shield emitters that glow a cold blue-white. The overall aesthetic is alien, austere, and almost architectural—sharp edges, minimal surface detail, and an emphasis on the shield field as the ship's most visible feature.

Their roster spans the full size range: the small Aeon Interceptor, medium Aeon Cruiser, large Aeon Destroyer, Aeon Battleship, and the massive Aeon Dreadnought. Each tier scales the same design language—angular geometry, heavy shield emitters, and a palette of dark hulls with blue energy accents.

Signature loadouts favor lasers and plasma weapons paired with high-tier shield emitters. The Aeon AI tends to be methodical: they invest heavily in shields early, absorb damage with their deflector fields, and punish you when your shields drop. They are not as swarm-oriented as the Mantis or as kamikaze as the Lanius; instead they fight like a wall that occasionally strikes back with surgical precision.

On the galaxy map, Aeon ships appear as hostile contacts (red markers) scattered across multiple sectors. They are not tied to a single story node but are encountered as random encounters or as part of Aeon-specific encounter chains. Narratively, they represent an outside force in the Rebel uprising—neither side of the civil war, but an enigmatic presence whose motives remain deliberately opaque, adding a layer of cosmic mystery to the conflict.
