Yura Battleship
When the Yura want a sector silenced, they send the Battleship and mean it.
The Yura Battleship is a heavy capital-class warship fielded by the Yura faction in FTL: Faster Than Light. It represents the upper echelon of Yura naval power, a broad-shouldered vessel bristling with multiple weapon mounts and a substantial shield envelope, designed to project force across a sector and hold the line against opposing fleets.
As an enemy encounter, the Yura Battleship typically surfaces in the mid-to-late stages of a playthrough, signaling that the player has pushed deep into contested space. Its presence on the radar is a warning: the Yura do not send this class of ship to skirmish. They send it to end engagements.

Lore & Background
The Yura are one of the many militaristic factions that populate the galactic conflict at the heart of FTL. Their aesthetic is unmistakable: angular hulls, a dominant red-and-orange color scheme, and a design language that evokes chitinous armor and predatory geometry. Where other factions project cold industrialism or organic fluidity, the Yura look like something that evolved to bite.
The Battleship sits at the apex of that predatory design. It is wider and more heavily armored than the Yura cruisers and corvettes that usually swarm in numbers, and it carries a complement of weapons sufficient to shred a player's shields before the oxygen gauge even starts to tick. In the game's narrative framework, the Yura are simply another hostile power the player must defeat to reach the rebel base, but their visual identity and aggressive combat posture give them a distinct personality among the roster of enemy factions.
What fans appreciate about the Yura, and their Battleship in particular, is the sense of escalation. Early Yura encounters are fast, swarming, and manageable. By the time a Yura Battleship drops onto the radar, the player has been grinding through waves of smaller Yura craft, and the capital ship feels like the faction's final, concentrated statement of intent.
In Their Own Story
The radar ping was long and heavy, not the short blip of a fighter. Kestrel's navigator stared at the contact and said nothing, which was worse than any warning.
On the screen, the Yura Battleship resolved from the starfield like a red blade drawn slow. Its shield shimmer pulsed in a steady, almost patient rhythm. Three weapon ports glowed amber along its broad flank, and the hull plating caught the light of a distant star in sharp, angular facets that looked less like metal and more like the carapace of something that had never learned to stop attacking.
"Shields to full," Kestrel said, and the hum of the ship's systems shifted a half-tone higher. "And someone tell me which of those guns is the one that's going to kill us first."
Reader's Guide
The Yura Battleship is an enemy-only capital ship encountered in the mid-to-late game. It is not available as a player vessel.
Layout and systems: The ship features a large hull with a substantial shield envelope, a multi-weapon armament (typically three to four weapon mounts), a dedicated weapons system, an engine, and oxygen. The crew complement includes a captain and several gunners and engineers, giving it the ability to sustain a prolonged fight.
Combat profile: As a Yura vessel, it favors aggressive, sustained fire. Expect rapid shield bashing from multiple weapon types, often mixing laser and missile or laser and beam profiles. Its shields will force the player to manage shield recharge windows carefully. The hull underneath is thick, so a single lucky hit will not end the fight.
Tactical notes for the player: Prioritize destroying weapons or shields before committing to hull damage. The Yura Battleship's multiple gunners mean that if you do not disable its weapons system or take out individual gunners, the shield pressure will compound quickly. Ion weapons can be effective at stalling its output, but its hull is large enough to absorb a few hits before it becomes vulnerable.
Did You Know?
- The Yura Battleship is strictly an enemy ship; the player cannot pilot it in standard FTL gameplay.
- Yura ships share a distinctive red-and-orange color palette and angular, insectoid hull design that sets them apart from every other faction in the game.
- The Yura faction tends to field a large number of smaller ships in addition to capital vessels, creating a 'swarm plus anchor' tactical pattern that the Battleship anchors.
- Defeating the Yura faction is one of several faction-clearance objectives the player must complete to progress toward the rebel base.
